Sweet, Dark and Crazy

Me a Mommy? Maybe. Or Then Again, Maybe Not.
At my age, there is a good chance that I may never be a mom. In the past, I would have cringed at the thought of not being a mom. Those days are over. Right now, I’m actually okay with a child-free future. I guess since I’m not around any kids, and haven’t been for several years now, I am not exposed to their kindness, innocence or generous natures. I just see them yelling and screaming and throwing tantrums. I also see my teenaged sister (half-sister) who has grown up with an outrageous sense of entitlement that is only rivaled by her even more massive ego and selfishness.

When I think about kids nowadays, I don’t get all warm and fuzzy and it’s not just the kids, it’s the moms too. In fact, it’s more about the moms than it is about the kids. I see frazzled, frustrated and stressed moms who brag about not having 15 minutes to themselves. I see women who consider it a badge of honor not to be able to get their hair done or even take a bath because their kids demand every single second of their time. And when the kids go to bed, they are just too tired to do anything.

This is not a life I want to lead or even aspire to.

I have 41 years invested in me. I like me. I like my life. I wouldn’t mind a kid if he could be a part of my life (albeit a very big part). I know, if I was a mom, my child would be my first priority but does he have to be my second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh priority as well? Yes, a child should and would change my life but I don't want a kid if it means I have to give up my life entirely.

While I’m on my mom rant, let me say this, I’m not a mom and I may not ever be a mom but that doesn’t mean I’m not a woman! Woman and mom are not synonymous. I had been reading about this You Tube video that Sarah Palin did. It was supposed to be about how ‘women’ were going to take back the Republican party. I decided to check it out. Well, it wasn’t about women, it was about moms. I guess I can’t really be a woman if I haven’t pushed out a baby or at least got one from somebody else who pushed one out.
